LOGAN SQUARE — The slow process of tearing down a church brick-by-brick provides a glimpse into the inner workings of a 106-year-old church.

Demolition of the former Saint John United Church of Christ in Logan Square has been underway all week to make way for a proposed condominium project, 2442 W. Moffat St.

The company that was hired on for the project, CCG Group, is attempting to save the materials for reuse, specifically the bricks, the bell inside the bell tower and ornaments from the top of the church.

The process of taking it down piece-by-piece showcases the craftsmanship of carpenters from the turn of the century, according to experts on the site.
