Andre Jackson, 23, Beaten To Death With Bat After Fight, Officials Say

By Kelly Bauer | August 10, 2016 5:46pm

CHICAGO — Andre Jackson, 23, was beaten to death with a bat in North Lawndale early Tuesday, officials said.

About 5:51 a.m., Jackson and another man, 20, were driving near Gladys and Kolmar avenues when four men walked into the street and blocked their car, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman. The two groups got into an argument that turned into a fight, and the group of four men beat Jackson and the 20-year-old with a bat and their fists, Sweeney said.

Jackson and the other man drove off and called 911, Sweeney said. Jackson was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with blunt trauma.

Jackson, of the 4100 block of West 19th Street, was pronounced dead at 5:51 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy showed he died of complications from multiple blunt force injuries in a homicide.

The other man had a minor laceration, Sweeney said.

No one was in custody.
