WEST LOOP — Drivers won't be able to merge directly from the Kennedy or Dan Ryan onto the Eisenhower Expressway Sunday morning as work continues on the Jane Byrne Interchange, officials announced Friday.
The ramps will close so that workers can install the "final beams" of a new flyover bridge connecting the expressways, according to an announcement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Between midnight and 10 a.m. Sunday, the ramp leading from the inbound Kennedy Expressway will close between Jackson Avenue and Halsted Street, officials said. A posted detour will take drivers down to Roosevelt Road, where they can get back to the Eisenhower via Ashland Avenue and Van Buren Street.
From Midnight to 8 a.m., motorists driving up from the inbound Dan Ryan will be led onto Roosevelt, where they can take the same route, officials said.
The $420 million renovation project is set to wrap up by this winter, officials said.
