Man Charged In West Ridge Murder

WEST RIDGE — A man was arrested and charged in the Wednesday morning murder of Kyara Newell, 26, police said.

At 12:26 a.m., Newell was driving in the 2300 block of West Arthur Avenue, near the intersection of Devon and Western, when two men shot at him from the sidewalk, police said.

Newell was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m., records show.

Officers found and arrested James Bryant, 40, "moments after the shooting," police said.

Bryant, of the 6500 block of North Claremont Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder.
