CHICAGO — A kitten who was battling for his life after being badly burned has died.
Sprout was set on fire but rescued by animal shelter Felines and Canines last week. The shelter shared photos of Sprout and talked about his progress, noting his legs might have to be amputated, but that he was eating.
But Sprout died early Tuesday, the shelter wrote on Facebook.
"What was most important here is that he knew love and peace in his final days, not pain and abuse," the shelter wrote. "We wanted for him so badly to pull through ... Our hearts are broken."
Donations were collected to help care for Sprout and other animals at the shelter. Felines and Canines receives the least amount of donations during the spring and summer months, the shelter wrote on Facebook earlier this month, but that's when it usually needs them the most.
Those who wish to help the shelter can donate online.
