Man Charged in Austin Homicide, Police Say

AUSTIN — A man was charged in the July 17 murder of an 18-year-old man in Austin, police announced in a Tuesday news release.

At 11:50 p.m. Sunday, the 18-year-old and a 33-year-old man were at a house party in the 5000 block of West Jackson Boulevard when a Eric Black, 33, allegedly shot at them, police said.

The 18-year-old, who died of his wounds, has yet to be identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Officers found Black "a short distance away" from the scene and took him into custody, police said.

Black, of the 5300 block of South Michigan Avenue, faces four felony charges, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Black has a prior felony weapon conviction, police said.
