CHICAGO — A booter worker for the City of Chicago demanded — and got — a $100 bribe from a driver not to tow their car, according to a report released Monday by the city's Inspector General.

While driving a city van, the Department of Finance employee, whom the report did not identify, found a car whose boot had been "inappropriately removed" months earlier.

The booter approached the driver and threatened to tow the car unless they coughed up a $100 bribe.

Alex Nitkin has the cautionary tale of the booter who got bitten by his bribery.

The driver then withdrew money from a grocery store ATM while the driver waited, according to both the driver's account and surveillance video.

The booter took the cash and left without writing a ticket or calling for a tow, the report said.

Following a recommendation from the Inspector General, the Department of Finance fired the employee, but the booter has appealed that decision.

The Cook County State's Attorney has also brought charges against the booter, according to the report.
