JEFFERSON PARK — A prayer vigil set for Thursday evening will give Far Northwest Side residents a chance to mourn the five police officers slain July 7 while patrolling a peaceful protest in Dallas.

The event set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson Park (16th) Police District Headquarters, 5151 N. Milwaukee Ave., will also include prayers for first responders in Chicago, organizers said.

Attendees are encouraged to wear blue clothes and bring blue flowers, balloons and candles, organizers said.

Many residents of the Far Northwest Side are police officers, firefighters and city workers.

A growing memorial to the police officers killed in Dallas already surrounds the police headquarters.

The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation is collecting donations for the families of the slain officers. Contributions can be made online at CPDmemorial.org/SupportDallas or by mail to the Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union c/o Dallas Police Support Fund 1407 W. Washington Blvd. Chicago, IL 60607. In addition, donations can be dropped off at any Chicago Patrolmen's Federal Credit Union location.
