DOWNTOWN — A man was hospitalized after stealing a landscaping truck, bringing it onto Lake Shore Drive then jumping into the lake — all while completely naked — Monday morning, police said.

Just after 7 a.m., officers responded to 911 calls saying that the man was "causing a disturbance" in the 100 block of East Delaware Place, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man then stole a landscaping truck and brought it onto Lake Shore Drive, where it caused a car accident, Trainor said.

Police could not immediately confirm whether anyone was hurt in the accident.

After crossing the highway, the man abandoned the truck and jumped into Lake Michigan, Trainor said.

The man was recovered from the lake and brought to an area hospital, police said.

Police did not say whether drugs were involved in the episode but called it an "apparent mental health situation."
