NOBLE SQUARE —  Come 6 a.m. Sunday, residents of Noble Square will have a new cafe to hang out at on Chicago Avenue.

Standing Passengers Coffee House and Gallery, located at 1458 W. Chicago Ave. in the former Ugly Mug Cafe, serves Metropolis Coffee and pastries made by Gingersnap Sweets and Such.

Owner Mark Rosengren — a documentary filmmaker, artist and Logan Square resident — named the new venture after an independent film production company he started in 2003.

Rosengren said he was seeking to foster an "old school coffee house" environment where artists could hang out and create.

"Come do a sketch or write a book; you are welcome here. Everyone is welcome," said Rosengren, who plans to be at the cafe full time.

A graffiti artist in the early 1990s, Rosengren made a documentary about graffiti and is also an artist.

For its opening show, Standing Passengers will display Rosengren's work, as well as later feature solo and group exhibits by others. Artists who are interested in showing their art on the walls can send an email to Rosen.

Standing Passengers hours are  6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Ph: 312-374-3177.
