LOGAN SQUARE — A new boxing gym that just opened in Logan Square isn't pulling any punches when it comes to training.

Whether participants at Unanimous Boxing Gym are beginners looking for a cardio workout or a more advanced fighter training for a fight, everything will be done at a professional level, according to Trinidad Garcia, co-owner of the gym.

"We want our clients to get good enough to want to fight in here," Garcia said.

The gym, 2764 N. Milwaukee Ave., is staffed by current and past professional boxers including Garcia, who turned pro at 21 and more recently fought at U.S. Cellular Field on ESPN and at the UIC Pavilion.

The first floor of the gym features a ring, about a dozen heavy bags and speed bags.

Eventually, possibly in September or October, Unanimous plans to start host fights at the gym.

The basement of the gym, Unanimous Power, features free weights, an artificial turf patch for training and other strength-training equipment.

Garcia opened the gym with Yuri Polyak, a dental lab owner who had trained under Garcia for the past four years.

One unique element of the gym is that it will include a weekly class for kids with special needs.

Garcia, whose young son is autistic, loves being around boxing. The boxer thinks other kids will benefit from being able to come into the gym and let loose a bit.

Those classes will begin every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in July.

The gym is hosting a grand opening special monthly rate of $115 for anyone who signs up for a year-long membership before July 10. After July 10, the regular rate is $135 per month for customers who sign up for a year, or $155 a month on a month-to-month plan.

Membership includes unlimited group boxing classes and access to the gym at anytime.
