WICKER PARK — This weekend's 8th annual Green Music Fest will offer live music on three stages plus vendors, food and activities for kids and leashed dogs.
Set for noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the eco-focused fest, which prohibits sales of plastic water bottles, takes place along Damen Avenue between North Avenue and Schiller Street in Wicker Park.
Biking or taking public transportation is advised; bike valets at both north and south entrances will be available. Car/street parking will be restricted in the 1400 and 1500 blocks of North Damen Avenue as well as the 1500 block of North Wicker Park Avenue, according to signs.
There is a suggested $5 donation to enter the fest.
One of the fest's three stages is powered entirely by energy generated from people riding eight stationary bikes. Musical acts are booked by Subterranean.

The Green Pet Fest (sponsored by Canine Crews)
Pet related retail and nonprofit vendors will offer perks for well behaved dogs on leashes. Profits from a dog wash will benefit local animal rescues One Tail at a Time and Alive Rescue. Pooches can express their inner animal creativity with paw painting, bandana tie-dying, basic training from local dog trainers and more.
The Green Vendors & Activities:
Throughout the green vendor village, visitors can find out how to save money and make their homes more efficient, buy local fresh and organic foods, explore environmentally-friendly crafts and products and more. Food vendors are required to use compostable single-use food serviceware, and 'virgin' paper items are prohibited. Bottled water is not sold, but water refill stations are conveniently located at every bar.
The Green Family Fun Fest:
Presented by and benefiting the Wicker Park Parents’ Association, the Green Family Fun Fest at Green Music Fest provides children’s activities throughout the weekend (from noon to 5 p.m. each day), including: recycled arts & crafts, DIY musical instruments, henna artists, bounce houses, mini-golf, a kiddie play area, and children's musical programming.
The Green Community Outreach Tent:
Veggie tattoos, face time with a farmer, secrets on utility bill scams, free energy-efficient light bulbs, information on residential composting services, a calendar of local nature-based outings and the opportunity to support local men and women affected by homelessness are all on tap for this tent. Participants include Ald. Joe Moreno (1st), Sierra Club Illinois, Band of Farmers: The Chicagoland CSA Coalition, Cara/Cleanslate, Citizens Utility Board, Healthy Soil Compost, Local Cup and WasteNot Compost.
