BUCKTOWN — A package thief who rolled up to a Bucktown home on his bike — a distinctive cruiser with a trailer in the rear — was captured on video early Sunday as he swiped two boxes.

The incident occurred at 12:02 a.m. Sunday on the front porch of a home in the 2100 block of McClean Ave. in Bucktown.

"Hopefully we can catch this thief and gather more information. You can see he has other packages on the bike. I don't think we were the first people [he stole from]," said the home's owner, who asked not to be named.

The homeowner said police told her they would come to her home within 10 days to view the video footage. Her husband was able to capture a few screenshots that show the man, who appears to be white, balding and wearing his sunglasses on his forehead.

According to the home's owner, a surveillance camera shows the man parking his bike, walking up to the porch to take the two packages, and then putting them into the saddle bags on the back of his bike.

The homeowner, who was not home over the weekend, said that the two packages, which contained items bought on Amazon.com, were delivered around 2 p.m. Saturday before the theft nine hours later.

With a value of about $50, the boxes contained "nothing of significant value," she said, listing dog treats, wood glue, Reynolds Wrap, Larabars and shampoo.

The woman and her family just moved to Bucktown in December and said it was their first experience with package theft.

"I am usually home when packages come. Crime is everywhere," she said.
