Englewood Shooting Kills Terry Bates Jr., Wounds 1 Other, Police Say

CHICAGO — A shooting in Englewood left one man dead and another wounded late Friday, police said.

At 8:45 p.m., the men, who were 26 and 27 years old, were in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard when two men with guns walked up and opened fire, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The 26-year-old man was shot multiple times throughout his body. He was brought to Northwestern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Lemmon said.

The man was identified as Terry Bates Jr., of the 500 block of West Oak Street, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Bates was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m.

The 27-year-old man was shot in his chest. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition was not released but he was listed as "stable," Lemmon said.

The victims were documented gang members, police said.

No one was in custody in the shooting.
