IRVING PARK — Anyone who's dialed 911 and been mystified by or frustrated with the response will want to attend Thursday's 33rd Ward community safety forum.
Experts from Chicago's 911 center — run by the Office of Emergency Management and Communication, not the Chicago Police Department — will describe the process in which calls are received, prioritized and dispatched.
The forum, sponsored by Ald. Deb Mell and several neighborhood organizations, is set for 6:30 p.m. at Bateman Elementary, 4220 N. Richmond St. (enter on the Sacramento side of the school).
A separate presentation, held at the same time, is aimed at 8- to 16-year-olds and will feature a screening and discussion of "Crossroads: Choices and Consequences."
The film was produced by the 33rd Ward's own Mimi Productions in conjunction with the FBI. The story follows a young man at the "crossroads" in the title — pursue the road to college or join a gang.
A conversation will follow the screening, led by FBI personnel.
