CHICAGO — The Goodman Theater marquee caught fire early Saturday.
The fire appeared to start at 5 a.m. at the top of the sign, said Cmdr. Walter Schroeder, a Chicago Fire spokesman. It did not spread to the theater, 170 N. Dearborn St., which was undamaged.
The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes and no one was injured, Schroeder said.
“While this is an unfortunate event, we consider ourselves lucky that nobody was injured, and are grateful to the Chicago Fire Department for their swift response,” said Goodman Theatre Executive Director Roche Schulfer, according to a news release.

Productions will perform as scheduled, with "The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window" at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday and "Soups, Stews and Casseroles: 1976" at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Damage to the marquee, which was put up in 2000, is being assessed by officials, according to the theater.
