THE LOOP — The city will get hit with thunderstorms just in time for the commute home on Wednesday.

Wednesday morning's sunshine will give way to clouds throughout the day, said AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Walker. Showers, thunder and lightning will start between 4 and 6 p.m. and continue into the night.

There will be "pretty heavy downpours" and "gusty winds" that reach 25 to 35 mph, Walker said.

Still, the day — and week — will be significantly warmer than usual: Wednesday is expected to see a high of 86 degrees and a low of 67 degrees, while the normal high is 73 degrees, Walker said. The record for May 25 in Chicago is 94 degrees.

No rain is expected on Thursday, but the day will be warm and humid with a high temperature in the upper 80s, Walker said.

Friday will see rain and thunderstorms and will be humid with a high in the low 80s, Walker said. The weekend and Memorial Day will also see rain. Temperatures will be at least in the low 80s throughout the weekend, Walker said.
