GLADSTONE PARK — A 3K run and walk will take place June 4 to honor the life and work of former Hitch Elementary School Principal Deborah "Debby" Reese, who died in 2014.

The first two races raised more than $4,400, with half going to Hitch Elementary School and half to St. Tarcisscus School to benefit the schools' students.

Reese, who led Hitch for 10 years, died in February 2014 of cancer.

Race organizer Chicago Police Lt. John Garrido, a member of the Hitch Local School Council, said a Fun Fest with activities, food and music will take place after the race, scheduled to start at 9 a.m. June 4 at St. Tarcissus, 6040 N. Ardmore Ave.

Reese "worked tirelessly to bring the community together and always sought ways to increase school funding opportunities and build community relationships," Garrido said.

Online registration is available through 7 p.m. June 3. The cost is $25. Those who register by Thursday will get a T-shirt, organizers said.
