DOWNTOWN — Children age 11 and under can ride Metra trains for free this summer, the commuter rail agency announced Tuesday.

Under Metra's expanded “Family Fares” program, up to three kids can ride for free with a paying adult from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day this year.

“A trip on Metra is a great opportunity to spend time together as a family without having to worry about traffic and parking,” Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. said “Plus, on weekends, Metra’s $8 weekend pass gives you another reason to hop aboard the train this summer. And during this weekend, the weekend pass will be good on Memorial Day, too.”

In other news, Metra said it will offer early outbound trains from Downtown Friday so riders can get a head start on the holiday weekend. On Monday, Metra will be operating on a Sunday/holiday schedule, which means there will be no service on the North Central Service, Heritage Corridor and SouthWest Service lines.
