ROSCOE VILLAGE — Kind of like "The Blob," the construction nightmare that is Belmont and Western continues to grow, threatening all motorists that cross its path.
Emergency repairs by ComEd have now been tossed into a mix that already included sewer work and the replacement of the Western-Belmont viaduct.
Here's what you need to avoid — if you haven't already sworn off this stretch of Western during the viaduct project:
• Belmont remains closed at Western and Clybourn. Yes, this intersection was supposed to reopen over the weekend, but crews encountered "unforeseen conditions," according to a notice from the 47th Ward office.
Work is now scheduled to wrap up by Friday. In the meantime, find an alternate route if possible.
• If that alternate route was Addison, sorry. ComEd is conducting emergency repairs through Friday under Addison between Western and the Chicago River. Traffic is restricted in this area.
