South Side Shootings Leave 7 Wounded, Police Say

CHICAGO — South Side shootings have left seven people wounded since Wednesday, police said. 

At 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 23-year-old man was in the 600 block of West 80th Street in Chatham when he heard shots and felt pain, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman. 

The man, who was shot in his leg and groin, was taken to Christ Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, Lemmon said. 

At 10 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in his hand in the 6700 block of South Blackstone Avenue in South Shore, Lemmon said. The man was taken to Jackson Park Hospital where he was listed in good condition, she said.

The man is documented gang member, police said.

At 5:17 p.m., a 23-year-old man was in the 3400 of West 83rd Place in Ashburn when he heard shots and felt pain, Lemmon said. The man, who was shot in his buttocks and leg, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition. 

At 1:18 p.m., a 22-year-old man was in the 7100 block of South Cornell Avenue in South Shore when when a someone in a blue SUV fired shots at him, Lemmon said. 

The man, who shot in his neck, leg and back, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Lemmon said.

The man is a documented gang member, police said. 

At 1:05 p.m., a 51-year woman and 32-year-old man were shot in the 6400 block of South Vernon Avenue in Woodlawn, Lemmon said. 

Both were shot in their buttocks and taken to Northwestern Memorial where their conditions were stabilized, Lemmon said. 

At 12:03 p.m., a 29-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were sitting on a porch in the 5500 block of South Shields Avenue in Englewood when someone in a Chevy sedan shot at them, Lemmon said. 

The man, who was shot in his foot, was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, Lemmon said. 

The man is a documented gang member, police said. 

The woman, who was shot in her buttocks, was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, Lemmon said. 

No one is in custody for the shootings, Lemmon said.
