ALBANY PARK — Earlier this year, the Albany Park Theater Project earned a coveted MacArthur Foundation Award.

Tune into PBS tonight to see what all the fuss is about.

The theater's 2015 production of "Feast," taped lived during its run at the Goodman Theatre, will air at 10 p.m. on WTTW Ch. 11.1. A second airing of the 60-minute show is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday on WTTW Prime Ch. 11.2.

"Feast," described as a "theatrical love letter to Chicago's food culture," features stories drawn from real life, performed by the theater project's teen ensemble.

Characters include a tamale vendor, an Albany Park butcher who escaped civil war in Lebanon, an 11-year-old girl celebrating her family's first food stamps, a young bride preparing a meal for her new husband, and parents passing down their family's fishing legacy before leaving the Philippines for the U.S.

"Feast" debuted in 2010 and was re-staged in the summer of 2015. The PBS outing marks the theater troupe's television debut.

Founded in 1997 by David Feiner and his late wife Laura Wiley, Albany Park Theater Project and its teen ensemble have been lauded for creating original works related to social justice issues.

In February, the theater project received a $400,000 MacArthur Foundation Award grant.

In addition to its home base at Eugene Field Park, 5100 N. Ridgeway Ave., the company has taken up a summer residence at the Goodman Theatre for the last several years, earning rave reviews for its productions.
