RIVER NORTH — Emergency responders had to close off a busy River North corner Tuesday after construction crews ruptured a gas line there, authorities said.

Construction workers were digging at the development site near State and Huron streets at about 11 a.m. when they struck the gas line, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. The gas leak is now "mitigated" but has yet to be fully secured, according to Larry Langford, a fire department spokesman.

No injuries have been reported, Langford said. Police are detouring motorists elsewhere as firefighters and the gas company resolve the situation.

The crews are building a 26-story apartment tower led by developer CA Ventures
