CHICAGO — A restaurant worker stopped two alleged thieves leaving a Bucktown eatery Saturday, recovering a customer's purse and returning it to her.

The woman was celebrating Mother's Day on Saturday when her purse was stolen at Irazu restaurant at 1865 N. Milwaukee Ave. by two other patrons of the restaurant, according to police and media reports.

The woman told the restaurant worker of the theft, and the worker then saw the two customers leaving with the purse, police said in a press release.

The worker followed the two fleeing customers, who were attempting to get into a cab outside the restaurant, police said. The worker opened the cab's door and attempted to detain the two robbers, according to police.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested the two robbers as well as returned the purse to its owner.

Darlene Henderson, 51, and Carl Hurn, 53, were arrested for the theft, police said.

Henderson, of the 3500 block of West North Avenue, was charged with one felony count of theft and one misdemeanor count of simple assault. Hurn, who also lived in the same North Avenue block, was charged with one felony count of theft, police said.

Henderson and Hurn made their initial appearance in court Sunday, and were each held on $100,000 bail, according to the Chicago Tribune.
