WEST RIDGE — Police said a woman in an SUV used the promise of candy to try to lure two children into her car last Tuesday, according to a Thursday community alert.

Around 6:35 p.m. April 20, the kids were walking in the 6700 block of North Whipple Street to retrieve a dodgeball they'd kicked from nearby Chippewa Park when a woman sitting in the passenger seat of a nearby black SUV rolled down her window, police said.

The woman yelled, "Hi kids, come over here, I have some candy," at which point the children ran back to the park, police said. When they saw the SUV still parked, they ran home and told their parents.

Police described the suspect as a white woman in her 20s, wearing a dark scarf. A man between the ages of 17 and 20, wearing a T-shirt and a baseball cap with a straight brim, sat next to her in the driver's seat.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200.
