CHICAGO — Kids heading to work with their parents on national Take Your Kids To Work Day will be able to ride Metra trains for free, the commuter rail agency said.

Kids 18 and under will ride for free with a fare-paying parent on Thursday, otherwise known as Take Your Kids To Work Day, Metra said.

Metra CEO Don Orseno said in a statement that the agency's employees have been bringing their kids to work on the day, and officials decided they would make it easier for other parents to do the same.

"We ... decided that offering our customers a free ride for their children will make it easier for them to participate in this event," Orseno said in the statement. "Plus, it's a great opportunity to expose future risers to Metra."
