SOUTH AUSTIN — Police say they have a man in custody connected with a case where a car was stolen with a 1-year-old sitting in the back seat.

Around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, a woman left her car in the 5800 block of West Roosevelt Road with her two daughters, 10 and 1, sitting in the back seat, police said. A man then got into the driver's seat, and the 10-year-old immediately got out.

The man drove off with the baby, police said, eventually taking her out and leaving her sitting in her car seat in the 900 block of South Menard Avenue.

Officers tracked the man down and arrested him in the 4500 block of West Fulton Street, police said, and both children were returned to their mother.

No one was injured, and charges are pending for the man, police said.
