WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A pair of armed robberies on 97th Street between Vincennes Avenue and Beverly Boulevard prompted a community alert Tuesday from police.
Men who were alone in Washington Heights were targeted between 3-6 p.m. in both in robberies. The two robbers either displayed or implied that they had a handgun, according to police.
The robbers demanded the victim's property and fled on foot. They wore hooded sweatshirts and carried a black handgun, police said.
The robbers were described as black men between 20-25 years old, standing between 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 130-150 pounds. One of the robbers had dreadlocks, according to police.
Specifically, the robberies occurred on:
• March 5 at 1257 W. 97th St.
• April 1 at 9700 S. Winston Ave.
