LOGAN SQUARE — Shows will go on at The Mutiny this weekend following a Thursday night fire that filled the dive bar with smoke and canceled that night's performances.
"It was pretty scary, but luckily it was caught in time," said Aimee Roll, booking manager at the Mutiny.
The fire broke out in a back office about 9:45 p.m. Thursday minutes before the night's performance, a record release, was set to start.
The back office was destroyed during the fire, but the rest of the bar is OK, according to Roll.
"The bar is still open and all the shows are still on," she said.
Ed McMenamin, whose record label was hosting the release party for Chicago-based band Glyders, said patrons helped grab instruments from the stage and rush them outside as smoke was filling the bar.
"People were running in and out grabbing stuff, guitars, amps, drum sets, all that," McMenamin said. "They got it all out. Everyone was hustling."
Roll said the fire might have started by a heater in the back office, but she was not sure.
"All the support from the community was amazing," she said.
