NORTH PARK — Everything's coming up maple at North Park Village Nature Center this weekend.

The center's annual Maple Syrup Festival features crafts, nature walks, storytelling and a demonstration of the maple syrup-making process from tapping trees to collecting sap to boiling the sap into syrup.

The fest has been an annual tradition since the 1980s. The trees that are tapped date to the late 1800s, when they were planted by Pehr Peterson, a former owner of the land. Peterson operated a nursery on the property, providing all the trees and shrubs for the 1893 World's Fair.

The festival runs 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 5801 N. Pulaski Road.

Admission is free and open to all ages.
