WICKER PARK — A huge former furniture mart that closed in 2014 is getting remodeled and will eventually offer first-floor retail or restaurant storefronts along with apartments upstairs.

Located at 1348-1352 N. Milwaukee Ave., the vintage three-story building was sold in July 2014.

According to a real estate listing, the space is for rent. It offers a "great corner position with ability for outdoor seating" and sign opportunities from two large existing marquees.

Neighbored by Antique Taco and MildBlend Supply Co., the property at the southwest corner of Wood Street and Milwaukee Avenue was initially set to host a Punch Bowl Social, though the entertainment complex abandoned that plan last summer.

Save for a pop-up shop for Halloween costumes, the building has sat vacant since August 2014 when Central Furniture Mart moved to 4141 W. North Ave. in Humboldt Park. The property is just south of another large empty former furniture store, Continental Furniture, 1417 N. Milwaukee Ave., which closed last year.

A building permit to construct retail storefronts and replace the windows, an estimated $125,000 project, was issued earlier this month, city records show.

The ground floor offers 7,397 square feet of retail space, according to a listing.
