CHICAGO — A 32-year-old Chicago man is facing federal charges for buying as many as 60 guns over two years and then illegally selling them to Chicago gang members, U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon announced in a Thursday news release.

Lazaro Salas repeatedly bought guns through a "straw purchaser" between 2013 and 2015 and then sold them to gang members. Salas had already served time on a prior felony conviction, the release said.

On Jan. 7, prosecutors said, Salas bought four guns from an undercover agent from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms — two for $350 and the other two for $200 and an ounce of marijuana.

Salas has been charged with one count of dealing firearms without a license and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, the release said. Together, the felonies are punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
