CHICAGO — The Chicago Public Library wants to remind residents that, yes, it does still celebrate Casimir Pulaski day and will therefore be closed Monday.

All library buildings, including the Harold Washington Library downtown, will be closed on Monday, March 7, the library system said in a news release.

The libraries are closing in observance of Pulaski Day, a Chicago-centric holiday honoring the Revolutionary War officer and Poland native.

Celebration of the holiday was scaled back in 2012, when Mayor Rahm Emanuel removed it from the Chicago Public Schools list of holidays.

Most government buildings in the city and county remained closed on Pulaski Day, according to the Public Building Commission of Chicago.
