CHATHAM — Firefighters were able to quickly administer first aid to a man shot outside a Chatham fire station Friday afternoon.

The 20-year-old man was standing in the 800 block of East 91st Street at 4:06 p.m. when he "heard shots and felt pain," said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman. A witness said the man was shot just 15 feet away from the fire station at 817 E. 91st Street.

Firefighters quickly exited the firehouse and began treating the man before paramedics arrived in an ambulance, which appeared to be returning from a trip elsewhere.

Larry Langford, Chicago Fire Department spokesman, said the man did not sustain life-threatening injuries. Police said he was taken to Christ Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.
