CHICAGO — We hope you didn't get too excited about Sunday's record-breaking warm weather — because it's going to snow ... and real soon.

The city's expected to get 2 to 4 inches between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon, said AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines. Though Chicago will see temperatures in the mid-50s during the day Monday, the city will get chilly during the night and could get hit with sleet, freezing rain and snow, Kines said.

That's a stark contrast to the record-breaking warm Sunday the city had, when it was as warm as 62 degrees.

"That's the way March can be," Kines said. "We can get some really nice mild spells, but a lot of times Old Man Winter's not willing to give up yet and we'll get days that are in the 30s or 20s, even. March can be a cruel month."

Kines is not sure yet sure when Monday night's snowstorm will start, but it's not expected to taper off until after the Tuesday morning commute.

The rest of the week will be chilly, too, and Chicago could see more snowfall or flurries on Thursday, Kines said. Wednesday won't see temperatures warmer than freezing and Thursday will be in the low 30s.

“After yesterday, it’s hard to believe we can be talking about snow, but, yeah, some snow is in the forecast,” Kines said.
