HYDE PARK — Two organizations have come together to help South Side communities deal with the stress caused by the city's violence.

Restored Hope and Yoga to Transform Trauma are hosting an international two-day event Friday and Saturday at Hub Productions, 1448 E. 57th St. Participants will learn ways to deal with the stress through peace practices and yoga.

"The current urban violence affecting many South Side neighborhoods needs to be confronted not by
fear, but by strong and resilient community members, and many of these efforts are already being lead by women," said Tameka Lawson, executive director of Restored Hope. "We are creating a space focused on sharing, breathing, presence and body based mindfulness practices to help community members feel stronger."

She said they also want to find ways to stop and eliminate the "senseless" violence and save lives in Chicago.

Friday's session is from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The Saturday session will meet from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

Restored Hope also provides afterschool programming to children living in the Bronzeville area, as well as comprehensive support services to their families. There are also weekly yoga classes and workshops. Check out the website at www.restoredhopechicago.org.
