DOWNTOWN — Nearly 1,000 flights have been canceled at O'Hare and Midway due to Wednesday's blizzard.
O'Hare had canceled about 750 flights and Midway had canceled nearly 245 by 10:35 a.m., according to the Department of Aviation. The flights were canceled during the early stages of a blizzard that was expected to sweep through the city on Wednesday and leave a foot of snow in some neighborhoods.

The snow was expected to be heaviest until 8 p.m. Wednesday, said AccuWeather meteorologist Carl Erickson. The most dangerous part of the storm will start at 3 p.m., when the sun begins to go down and the temperature drops and roads get icy.
"If you don't have to travel ... it might be a good idea to just hunker down for a bit," Erickson said.
