PILSEN — Police are looking for the driver of a speeding Ford Mustang who drove off after causing a crash that left a young woman dead and two others hurt, including a 5-year-old boy.
At 12:07 a.m. Sunday, a Ford Mustang was speeding southbound near the 2400 block of Loomis Street when it crashed into a Honda Civic head on, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
After striking the Civic, the Ford Mustang's occupants fled the scene, Trainor said.
A 23-year-old woman, who was in the passenger side of the Civic, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. A 5-year-old boy and 18-year-old man, the Civic's driver, were taken to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition.
The woman was identified as Elizabeth Salinas of the 4800 block of S. Laflin St., according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, a spokeswoman said.
Prior to hitting the Civic, the Mustang struck two other parked cars, Trainor said.
Friends are raising money for Salinas' funeral through a GoFundMe campaign. More than $1,800 has been raised as of Monday afternoon.
The Chicago Police Major Accidents unit is investigating the hit-and-run, Trainor said.
