EDISON PARK — There will be no place like Ebinger Elementary School Saturday and Sunday when performances of the "Wizard of Oz" turn the Edison Park school into a Technicolor wonderland.
The production by Northbrook-based Special Gifts Theatre will feature actors and actresses with special needs in the iconic roles of Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow, theater officials said.
The performance is designed to teach both the performers and audience members to accept themselves and "look for happiness within ourselves" while enjoying the journey down the Yellow Brick Road, theater officials said.
The 16-year-old non-profit organization is dedicated to "enabling personal growth while breaking down stereotypes related to disabilities within the community at large."
Performances are scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the school, 7350 W. Pratt Ave. Tickets are $12 in advance online at specialgiftstheatre.org or $15 at the door, organizers said.
