CHICAGO — It will finally feel like winter in Chicago as temperatures plummet this week.
The city is expected to be as warm as 11 degrees on Tuesday, and it will be 6-10 degrees on Wednesday, said Amy Seeley, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. But with chilly wind the city will feel as cold as 15 below zero for the next two days.
Those temperatures are slightly below normal — but they're par for the course when it comes to typical Chicago winters. But we've been spoiled this year.
"It's winter. I don't know what people are getting worked up about here," Seeley joked. "It's a little cooler than normal right now. Well, it's not that low — our normal lows this time of year are in the teens."
Chicagoans should wear weather-appropriate clothing to avoid frostbite, particularly because of the windchill.
"If it's this cold, you want to keep yourself bundled up," Seeley said. "You'll feel [the windchill]. Most people will definitely feel that."
The city will also see up to 1 inch of snow Tuesday, though the rest of the week is expected to be dry, Seeley said.
