COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Three men and a pregnant woman stole a stroller and nine boxes of shotgun shells from a Wicker Park garage, prosecutors said Tuesday.
A fake grenade, Rollerblades, hunting scissors, a baby's car seat and a decorative brown cross rounded out the haul, according to court records.
David Jimenez, 25; David Reyes, 35; Adam Reyes, 22; and Jazleen Pedro, 18, were arrested about 10:30 p.m. Monday after a witness spotted the foursome and called 911, police and prosecutors said.
The group was stealing items from a garage in the 1600 block of North Oakley Avenue and placing them in a waiting Chevy Trailblazer, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Tuesday.
When police arrived, Pedro — who is pregnant, according to her public defender — began to kick one of the officers in his thighs and groin, an arrest report said. She then bit the officer in his arm, the report said.
Police found additional stolen items — including a MacBook Pro, clothing and a comforter — inside the Chevy, court records show. These items had been stolen from a nearby home in the 1700 block of North Marshfield Avenue, according to court documents.
Adam Reyes, of the 3000 block of North Meade Avenue; David Reyes, of the 1600 block of North Fairfield Avenue; Pedro, of the 1000 block of North Lawler Avenue; and Jimenez, of the 3000 block of North Meade Avenue, are each charged with theft and burglary.
Pedro faces an additional charge of aggravated battery to a police officer, while Jimenez was additionally charged with resisting arrest.
Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas on Tuesday said the foursome could be released on their own recognizance if they qualify for the Cook County Sheriff's Office's electronic monitoring program.
If not, Pedro is responsible for $25,000 bail, while bail for Jimenez, Reyes and Reyes would be set at $50,000.
