CHICAGO — A robber used pepper spray to attack drugstore clerks in Morgan Park and Calumet Heights before robbing them of money, police said.

The attacker has robbed two stores since Dec. 24, police said in an alert issued Tuesday.

In both cases, the man walked up to the checkout counter carrying merchandise before he pepper-sprayed the store's clerk and grabbed money from the register, police said.

The first robbery was at 10:11 a.m. Dec. 24 in the 8700 block of South Stony Island Avenue in Calumet Heights, police said. The second took place at 11 a.m. Jan. 15 in the 11000 block of South Western Avenue, according to police.

Police described the robber as a black man 20-40 years old, 5-foot-7 to 6-foot-2, 160-225 pounds with a medium complexion and an afro hairstyle.

Police asked anyone with information on the robberies to call detectives at 312-747-8273.
