WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — In honor of Black History Month, the Chicago Public Library will present a special jazz performance Saturday.

The library's African American Services Committee will present the first program, a musical performance by The Next Generation of Jazz Band. The band will highlight the role that music plays in African American culture. The group consists of young musicians Jeremiah Collier (drums) and Isaiah Collier (saxophone). There will be special guest musicians narrating and performing the history of Jazz.

The free event will take place Saturday from 2-4 p.m. in the auditorium at the Woodson Regional Library, 9525 S. Halsted St.

Throughout the month of February there will be musical performances, dancing and storytelling at different branches. The public is invited to participate in a variety of free author program, storytelling, crafts, book discussions and more.
