UPTOWN — Uptown residents walking along Kenmore Avenue on Thursday will notice the playground at the former Graeme Stewart School has vanished.

The former school building at 4525 N. Kenmore Ave. was officially sold Thursday to Morningside USA, according to Ald. James Cappleman (46th).

"This development will be in 3 different phases, with the first phase focused on the rehab of the school itself into 50 residential units," Cappleman said in an email Thursday. "Second and third phases will rely on zoning changes that will require further community feedback from residents and the 46th Ward Zoning & Development Committee."

"You will see some immediate changes to the property. For liability reasons, Morningside USA will fence the entire perimeter of the property, close the parking lot just north of the property, and remove the existing playground equipment," he said.

Morningside donated the equipment to Kids Around The World because CPS and the Chicago Park District were unable to accept the equipment, Cappleman said.
