HYDE PARK — The Black Cinema House will host a free screening on Friday of “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution,” the first feature-length documentary about the group.

The arts cinema house at 7200 S. Kimbark Ave. will show the film at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by a panel discussion.

The film by Stanley Nelson is rich with archival footage of members of the Black Panthers, police, FBI informants, journalists and others who were there for the group’s peak of influence.

After the film Imani Jackson of the Black Youth Project will lead a panel discussion with Jane Rhodes, author of “Framing the Black Panthers: The Spectacular Rise of a Black Power Icon;” Damon Williams, a Black Youth Project member and a co-founder of the #LetUsBreathe Collective; and a member of the Prisoners of Conscience Committee and the Black Panther Party Cubs.

The screening is free and open to the public.
