NEAR NORTH SIDE — If you're a young professional who thinks carnivals can be improved by booze, Autism Speaks is hosting a fundraiser just for you on Saturday.
The Beernival (exactly what it sounds like — a carnival-themed beer event) will include carnival games, a beer pong tournament and prizes, and will take place on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 1-4 p.m. at Joe's Bar on Weed Street, 940 W. Weed St.
The proceeds from the event will go to Autism Speaks' Chicago branch.
Autism Speaks to Young Professionals is an organization that advocates for those who struggle with autism by volunteering their time and talents to increase awareness, raise funds and serve as ambassadors of Autism Speaks.
Jessie Block, AS2YP's events chairperson said that $2,000 was raised from last year's Beernival event. She said they have already exceeded that amount based on ticket sales alone this year.
"We are expecting 400 to 500 people to show up. The ticket sales have blown our expectations out of the water," Block said. "We've already outsold the beer pong tournament. Our goal was to raised $3,000 and we've already exceeded that."
