Winter Misery Index: This Snowy, Gloomy Friday Could Be Much Worse

CHICAGO — As the East Coast loses its mind over an impending blizzard, we're gazing sleepily out the office window at gently blowing flurries, knowing our city will likely have it all cleaned up efficiently, as always, before we run to Al's Beef for lunch.

Jan. 22, 2016 Rating: Slightly Miserable (3)

Why a 3? It's much warmer than it was earlier in the week, but the sun is noticeably absent. There are flurries, but nothing to bust out the Blizzardmobile over.

More reasons for misery: It's still only January. Patio weather seems so, so far.

Why things aren't the worst: It's FRIDAY and it'll be sunny and in the 30s this weekend. We'll take it. Also, if you do want to avoid the flurries on your lunch break, Chicago's pedway will take you from work to lunch to happy hour without stepping outside.
