NORWOOD PARK — Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st) warned residents Thursday not to allow scam artists posing as city workers into their homes.

In an email to 41st Ward residents, Napolitano said a resident who lives in the 5300 block of North Newcastle Avenue said a man came to their home around 9 p.m. Wednesday and asked to see their gas and electric bills to ensure they were "receiving the proper unlimited usage discount."

This is part of a scam, Napolitano said, and warned residents not to open the door and call 911. Scammers can use information from utility bills to steal personal information.

A similar incident occurred near Six Corners in Portage Park on Monday, according to a report posted on Facebook by a resident.

Police officials as well as representatives of People's Gas and Commonwealth Edison have been notified, Napolitano said.

Last summer 24th District police warned residents of people posing as utility workers on the Far North Side in a similar scam.
