Winter Misery Index: The Shoveling Wars Have Started, But Dibs Laying Low

OLD IRVING PARK — After a super mild December, January has been a kick in the teeth, there's no denying it. But it's not like we don't know the drill, which is why some people's response to a tiny bit of snow has us feeling:

Jan. 13, 2016 Misery Index Rating: Slightly Miserable (4)

Why a 4? It's going to be a whole lot colder this weekend. Come Sunday, we'll look back on today and think "heat wave!"

More reasons for misery: We got like, what, two inches of snow, max? And the shoveling wars have already started. We came across this photo, posted by angry neighbors in Old Irving Park, of snow cleared by one resident, right into the sidewalk, blocking everyone else. Ugh, why do we have to keep explaining how shoveling works?

Why things aren't the worst: It's not full-blown dibs season. Yet. Also warming our hearts: This story about a Lakeview wine shop that just installed vending machines which let you sample vintages before you buy an entire bottle. Oh, and we're pretty sure we have the winning Powerball ticket.
