LOGAN SQUARE — While crime continued its downward trend in Logan Square in 2015, the neighborhood recorded its highest number of homicides since 2006.
There were eight homicides in Logan Square in 2015, according to the Chicago Police Department's data portal.
That number was up from seven in 2014, four in 2013, and two in 2012, 2011 and 2010.
The deadliest year since 2002 was 2003, when there were 18 homicides in the neighborhood, as defined by the Chicago Police department's map.
Shootings in the neighborhood were down from 29 in 2014 to 21 in 2015.
Aside from homicides, violent crime overall in Logan Square has was down 14.8 percent in 2015 from the previous year. That includes assault, battery, sexual assault, homicides, kidnapping and robberies.
The total number of all reported crimes was down 7.5 percent year-over-year.
Over the past five years overall crime has dropped by 36.1 percent through the end of 2015 while violent crime has fallen by 36.6 percent, according to city data.
